HOW TO CHOOSE A MATTRESS

  1. Do you really need a new mattress?
The average lifespan for any type of mattress is 8 years. Some mattresses may wear out faster, others may last longer and still be perfectly fine. Most durable mattresses are usually latex mattresses, and pillowtop mattresses are on the other side.

If you've been using your mattress for seven or eight years, you will most likely need a new mattress. Also, if you're waking up in pain, not sleeping through the night, or don't feel well-rested, you may want to consider buying a new mattress.
  2. Determine your budget
Today you can find online a quality mattress at a reasonable price. Online options are not worse than in-store ones, they're simply cheaper. While prices vary dramatically, we wouldn't recommend you go with the cheapest mattress. At the same time, more money does not mean better quality. Choose from ranging from $500 to $1,200. For example, the ideal budget for the most popular mattress size - queen - would be somewhere in the $1,000 range.
  3. Choose materials and type
Here's where your personal preference comes first. The most common mattress options you can find these days are innerspring (coils), memory foam, latex, and hybrid mattresses. Other options are adjustable beds, pillowtop, air, and waterbeds. Each mattress type has its advantages and disadvantages, so do your research to find the right material for you.
  4. Take your sleeping position into consideration
It may not seem obvious, but the way you sleep will help you determine the right firmness for your new bed. Whether you sleep on your side, stomach, or back, or if you switch throughout the night, you should consider different firmness levels to ensure your sleep will be comfortable and won't cause back or neck pain.
  5. Your weight is also a factor
Your weight and body type affect sinkage, hug, feel, cooling, and support of each mattress. Manufactures provide recommended firmness scales for an average sleeper of 150-200 pounds. If you are lighter or heavier than an average sleeper you may need a specific type of mattress or firmness to create an ideal feel and support that your body needs.
