What Is a Double Sided Mattress?
A two-sided mattress, or flippable mattress, is a mattress with comfort layers on each side. Typically, each side has its own firmness level: a softer side and a firmer side. So if you buy a flippable mattress you will basically get two different beds. You can choose the side based on your comfort preferences or season.
There are double sided mattresses with the same firmness on both sides, but they are mostly for those who are sure they need a soft or firm mattress only. If you buy a mattress online and not sure what firmness level will feel more comfortable, then go for a dual firmness flippable mattress.
You can rotate and flip your double sided mattress to prolong its durability. Manufacturers typically advise you to flip the mattress every six months or so, and you can rotate your mattress every three months or even often if you feel that your mattress does not offer the comfort you expect.
The advantage of the flippable mattress is its durability. When you flip a mattress, it breaks in more evenly as there is no constant pressure on the same spots. So your double sided mattress may last longer than a one sided mattress. Another advantage is that you basically get two beds for almost the same price as a standard mattress. Plus, if your preferences change, you can change your bed as well without buying a new mattress.
