Innerspring vs Pocket Coil Mattress
Innerspring mattresses are traditional mattresses that consist of metal coils that are entirely interconnected to form a single unit. Since springs are connected, you can feel as the whole mattress sinks to one side when you sit or lie on it. If you sleep with a partner who is heavier than you, you may feel a slight inclination of the mattress.
Also, innerspring mattresses may be less comfortable for couples as they may feel the movements of their partner, which may lead to poor quality sleep. If you have any sort of joint or back pain, the innerspring mattress may not provide enough pressure relief as it unable to contour to your body and distribute weight evenly.
However, innerspring mattresses are not bad for everyone. Many people find them comfortable and ideal type of a mattress for them. Innerspring mattresses are among the coolest mattresses available due to the air between the coils. Plus, innerspring mattresses are more durable and cheaper than pocket coil mattresses.
A pocket coil mattress is made of metal coils or springs which are individually wrapped in a fabric (pocket) or sleeve. This type of springs is also known as pocketed spring or Marshall coil and has become popular among sleepers.
The pocket coil system allows springs to act independently of one another, which minimizes movements across the mattress. Also, this allows the mattress to easier contour to your body providing good support. As a result, sleepers with back or neck pain can feel relief at pressure points.
The pocket coil system is often used in hybrid mattresses as pocketed springs form a good supportive base for comfort layers. Therefore, sometimes pocket coil mattresses may cost slightly more than innerspring mattresses.
